Monte Bernardo epitomizes the definition of a True American hero. Monte Bernardo is a Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, and he was serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan when he was critically injured by an IED on July 4, 2012. Monte lost both of his legs and one of his hands in the explosion. Thanks to his amazing strength and the quick and heroic work of his fellow soldiers, Monte has been transported to the Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland to begin his long journey toward recovery.

Monte grew up in Petaluma, California, before joining the Army in 2006. Monte is a great patriot, and he has always believed in noble causes. As many know, he would give the shirt off his back to help others and is an amazing person. His smile and attitude always brighten a room, and people are drawn to him. He is one of a kind and is always the first to selflessly volunteer. Monte is a proud father of an eleven-year-old daughter. She is the light of his life and he is always so excited to talk about her accomplishments.
