August 4, 2012 – Take me out to the ballgame
Monte and some fellow Wounded Warriors spent an awesome night at the Nationals/Phillies game! They were treated to dinner at the club level and seats behind home plate. The Nationals put them up on the big screen and the whole stadium was brought to their feet in applause! Monte had such a great night.

August 3, 2012 – Out on the town
A picture of Monte and his sister Stella out on the town! He was so happy not to be at the stinkin’ hospital. As great as the staff at Walter Reed is, that place can get to you after a while and you need a break. We are glad you enjoyed such a great day Monte!

August 1, 2012 – Four weeks
Four weeks ago, the Taliban tried to take Monte’s life. Four weeks ago, Monte lost both legs and a hand. Four weeks ago, Monte was born again. Four weeks is a short time in most people lives. In Monte’s last four weeks he was in a coma for one, in ICU for the second. The third week was spent on the Wounded Warrior floor and the fourth he has flourished in outpatient therapy. Monte is busting recovery records and taking names. In Monte’s own words “the Taliban can’t phase me, they can try, but here I come rising from the of ashes of their little bomb, 3 outta 4 limbs, less than I had and still as strong as ever, bring it…….”. The Taliban thought they could break the spirit of an American Warrior, but the opposite has happened. They have created a survivor, an inspiration, a grateful father and a caring brother, a stronger soul and an even harder Cav Scout than they faced the first time. I am glad to say that four weeks later Monte is on his first pass from the hospital with his family, enjoying a wonderful day on a boat cruising from Annapolis to St Michaels. Keep up the hard work Warrior and stay strong! Special thanks to Tamara Darvish and DARCARS Automotive Group for helping to make this day so special for Monte.
July 30, 2012 – Cambridge Auto fundraiser

Thank you Cambridge Automotive and Alamo City Rugby for hosting this event and raising $300 for Monte! He really appreciates the support and enjoyed hearing his name on the radio. It inspires him to know that so many people care.

July 26, 2012 – Lit
The band Lit came and visited Monte at PT! Such an awesome band touring w/ the USO. He really enjoyed them and he said that they were cool guys. BTW, Monte can now have visitors, so let us know if you were wanting to come by the hospital. Also, a request has been sent for no more care packages. He has a ton of food in his hospital room and is running out of space! If you have one ready to send, no prob, just going forward we would like for folks that want to assist, to help w/ fundraising or make a donation to Bernardo Recovery Fund. Thanks for the support y’all!

July 13, 2012 – Amazing strength
Update: I have a quote from Monte in response to someone asking how he was feeling; “Alive and kicking, the Taliban can’t phase me, they can try, but here I come rising from the of ashes of their little bomb, 3 outta 4 limbs, less than I had and still as strong as ever, bring it…….”. This response sums up his can do attitude, tenacity, and warrior spirit! We are so proud of him. Your prayers and support have made him strong.

July 12, 2012 – Road to recovery
Monte had a pretty rough day yesterday. He was in a lot of pain and did not sleep well the night before. The drugs caused very vivid dreams, which is not a good thing. Thankfully, today has gone much better and Monte was very excited to eat his first meal since the explosion. He is still in the ICU, but the doctors are looking to move him to the Wounded Warrior floor either today or tomorrow. All of his sisters will be here this weekend to visit ,and he is looking forward to that. Please continue to pray for his recovery!
